Thank you to everyone who is following along and posting comments.
I stopped by the shop today for a few minutes. Telly told me he wants to finish up the metal work this week. He now has the passenger side wheel well welded back in place and was working on the drivers side wheel well.

The drivers side quarter panel is now welded on. My buddy also removed the 6x9 speakers from the rear seat base and welded up those holes. He needs to weld on one pop out hinge and I think we will be done with the welding for now.

Are you going to blend in paint on the repaired areas and leave the rest OG? |
Thanks for the question. The paint is going to be blended in at this time. I am having the entire area under the truck bed painted yellow as no yellow paint remains. He will also paint both lower dogleg and door areas where there were big patches of bondo. The nose and roof will also get mostly repainted as most of the yellow is gone in those spots. The areas of the bus that are still mostly yellow will stay original and the scuff marks and wear marks in those areas will stay. I do not want to spot paint every imperfection. The gates are going to remain as-is as well as I like that it shows like it was used as a work truck.
The paint used is single stage satin as I did not want the new paint to be too shiny. Hopefully we will have new paint on this weekend. _________________ September 1964 Standard Sunroof walk through SWR/BG original paint. |

I like how the birth certificate says "Double Cabin"

I did receive the corrected birth certificate in the mail yesterday from the VW museum, now it shows the correct paint color as Postal yellow and it has the correct seat color showing.

So, my buddy posted this photo last night on Facebook. I can't wait to get over to his shop today to see how the new paint looks.

Wouldn't the chassis on this originally be the primer gray color rather than yellow? |

Yes. I think my earlier post was confusing. I should have said he is painting the all areas underneath the drop gates. That is the area he is painting yellow. He is not painting the frame. I am just trying to get the truck back on the road and mostly yellow again at this time. Eventually this truck might get treated to a full restoration, but that is not in my budget at this time. You are correct the underside frame area was originally primer gray. _________________ September 1964 Standard Sunroof walk through SWR/BG original paint. |

It is directly translated from ze German "Doppelkabine," i.e. "double cabin," double cab or crew cab flows better, though hahah. Typically, it's shortened to its abbreviated form of "Doka." Remarks complete. _________________ ,,Wenige Menschen denken, und doch wollen alle entscheiden.'' -der Alte Fritz

The bouncy house looks a little tight with a bus in there. _________________ September 1964 Standard Sunroof walk through SWR/BG original paint. |

Ok, here are the photos after the paint. Keep in mind I am not going for a restored bus it is supposed to look like a old bus. We are going to work some more on the transition between the old paint and the new paint and probably scuff up the new paint some more so it is not so obvious to which areas were repainted. I was going for a look of an old work truck. I did not want Telly to body work the truck and he did not use any new filler, I just wanted it to look like a sweaty old work truck.

Thanks everyone. I am very happy with the way it turned out. There is still plenty of work to do, but it does look much better now that the outside is back to mostly yellow. The nose of the bus looks so much better with some paint on it. _________________ September 1964 Standard Sunroof walk through SWR/BG original paint. |
