Shiny "earth tone" surface rust looks good against the black.

Headlight "black-out" shields!?! Shocked Where did you find them? I've not seen them on any Beetle later than a WW2.

Body is back home. Some assembly has begun. I'm still doing some seam sealing on the interior seams on the car. I also bought some of that Eastwood's Internal Frame coating to coat the inside of the heater channel tubes and the channels themselves. I drilled a small access hole towards the rear of the heater channel to access the inner area of the channel. Put the tube in there and started spraying. Good stuff. hopefully it will help.

Transaxle was sent out. Dune Buggy Supply in Minneapolis disassembled and inspected the insides. Installed new bearings and resealed. BulliWerks Restorations in Stillwater, Minn. (Nlorntson, samba user) restored the axle tubes and did the final assembly on the transaxle. Very happy with both. I highly recommend them both.

Seat frames and gas tank I got powder coated at bulletproof coatings in Crookston, Minn. Joe is awesome to work with. He'll order any powder I want and is just an all around awesome dude.

Tank was RAL 5014 Pigeon Blue. Turned out great!
Seat Frames I went with 7032. Again, spot on.

Little bit of progress today.

Vent Wing Window Rubber. Seriously.....what a pain! I used an o-ring lube to help it into place but I'm not sure if that worked with or against me. It's in, but I'm not quite sure if I cut the lock latch into place correctly. I'm sure I'll find out soon. I also did a bit of assembly on my decklid just for fun.

I'm rebuilding the steering box. I had to order new seals for it. I found them at intech bearing online.

Little seal is 16mmx24mmx7mm. Pn 6405

Bigger seal is 28mmx40mmx7mm Pn 10939

Worm gear is nice still. It'll be a quick paint job and reseal and reassembly.

I have a problem. all the body to pan bolts are in. The doors are now very hard to open and once i try and close them, they come into the b pillar about 3/4" low. Both doors opened and closed great before i boltes it down. I dont know where my body could be flexing at. Any ideas?

Problem solved. Turns out that the narrowed beam i had built was the issue....the frame head mounts are too tall. So, the front of the body was resting on that. When i would snug down the firewall bolts, it would flew the body enough that it made the doors hard to open and close.

I will have to cut the tops of the body mounts off the beam, grind them down and fit them to the body so as not to cause any problems in the future. Maybe next week i can do that.

Now that this issue is solved, onto the next task. I mounted the rear fenders today. I got confurmation that my wire harness from www.vwlooms.com is complete and will be shipping today. I can't wait to get that in and check that off my list. Soon up will be interior and glass.

This isnt undercoating. Its actually called rocker guard. Great stuff!
