If any of you have Ralph Naders books SMALL ON SAFETY, in chapter 3, esp pages 38-42 or so he talks extensively about how the front seat is likely to fail.

Your biggest worry is a rear impact, so keep on moving forward!

There was/is a 'home fix' for the seats. To keep them from going backward and shearing off the seat tracks thus ejecting the front seat occupants out the rear window. A U bolt, like a muffler clamp, bolting over the seat's lowest pipe thru the floor. The drawback is, can't adjust the seat anymore.

Honestly, with the overwheling quantity of rushed and crazed idiots on the roads today, I almost spend more time peering into my rearview mirrors than out my windshield. Especially when I stop, I always leave myself space in front and have an emergency exit route planned in case that idiot comes screaming uo behind me.

On my Camper Van I wired in a flash relay for the brake lights. It flashes several times in increasing frequency and then goes to all red.
Probably annoying as all get out to those behind me but it certainly gets their attention!
