Looking to replace the long air ducts that run from the back to the front. Anyone know the proper term for these? And where I could find suitable replacements?
Thanks,

As far as I know you can't get the factory replacement anymore.
Most people use aluminum dryer exhaust hose wrapped in insulation. Hopefully someone can let you know what size you need. _________________ 57' Beetle Deluxe

An alternative is to use 3" silicone tubing. It is weather proof and retains the heat very well. I haven't done the upgrade myself, but my good friend has. He drives his bay year round and swears that he has toasty heat now.
Not sure how he mated the tubing to the heater boxes. I've talked to my dad who is a machinist about manufacturing an adapter that would handle that interface. Just haven't drawn it up in NX yet to get to him.
I can probably get Ryan to share some details about his setup if y'all are interested. He said it wasn't cheap to buy that tubing, but wasn't hatefully expensive either. Can't remember what he had $-wise in the setup. |

I have light weight stovepipe which I cut the mating edge off of and then refastened to size using sheet metal screws. The whole thing is wrapped in self stick close cell foam and then covered with split PVC sewer pipe. Very durable.
The biggest problem with fixing the pipes is if the wye pipe in the back is rusted out. If so I would advise splitting the system so one heater pipe feeds directly into the cabin under the rear seat and the other feeds through a modified center pipe. (even if your wye is in good condition splitting the system is a good idea as you get way more total air flow this way.
My bus is short sleeve comfy at 15*F while highway driving. You just don't want to block the under seat outlet with anything that can be damaged by heat. I am not sure what temperatures I get from the under seat outlet, but I suspect they may come close to 300*F on a hard pull. |

I have a new metal center/main heat duct if you want to buy it. PM me and I will send you a photo after I get home from work. Was going to use it but now I don't need it.

This is a piece of double-walled stove pipe that worked well:

If you liked that, you will love this... A bit of a teaser for the build thread that I really must build some day soon... Here is the undercarriage after bracing (to strengthen the body after adding a fourth door to this double cab) and paint:

Oh geez, that's nice! I feel like mine could use the same treatment after spending some time under the chassis last night. Good news is that the rockets were all still nice on the outer and inner sides. Bad news is that I need to replace the driver's side rear jack point (not like I use it anyway, though). The square tube has rusted out on the bottom. _________________ '75 Campmobile (tin-top to SpaceRoof)

I used a 4ft piece of 2.25" stainless steel tubing from Amazon. That along with (2) 3" to 2.25" silicone couplers from Amazon. Total for everything was about $60 and should last forever. |
