You have left the vent scoops on, does it help or hurt?

(I did check scoop cooling once, on another bus. It seems that adding scoops did more to cool the engine. IIRC, it brought head temps down by ~10C) (FWIW, I don't seem to have problems with overheating, and would not add them to a bus. But they go with the look of this kombi) |
so, because I saw this, and was literally in this directory the other day pulling a copy of OVH into it:

That was for a physics class. I had heard people say scoops made engines run cooler, and other people say it was not so. They would have all kinds of reasons for their opinions, but no one had any documentation to back up their claims.
I had to do a project and present it to the class at the end of the quarter. I had access to lots of equipment at the college, and thought why not check this out? Most of the time was spent in setting up the equipment to get useful measurements, but I did get some good data before the quarter ended.
The paper probably could have been better edited to be clearer and more concise, but has some neat findings.

Finally got around to installing my replacement canvas for the poptop:

Not much of a milestone, but I cleaned up under the passenger seat. Still some hard-as-rocks glue, some stains in the paint, and some paint chipped, but I can't really complain.

staples? So glad my bus came with a new canvas installed already. I had to replace the springs which involved a lot of swearing.
This past weekend I went through and replaced all 6v parts with 12v including all LED lights minus the headlights. Much brighter and well worth the money spent. _________________ Like a midget at a urinal, I'm always on my toes

Yep. A shit-ton of staples to remove and then add back:
Not to mention the grey trim strip which you need to beat in to submission to hook on the corners (heat helps a bunch).

Great tip, heat the grey trim. Please share the LED source.

Thats gonna be hard finding low profile chains that wide Clara! I've looped out in the snow in a lot of vehicles, but never in a bus. Be careful! |
