Payment for what ?

Just caught this reply 5 days later......Payment was made to the broker, 4 Corners, for the cost of transporting a bus from OR to NY. I'm not paying the shipping, but it's my bus. It's a long story.
We're now two days shy of 6 weeks and no pickup. The broker keeps claiming the job is at the top of the board, they've raised the amount they'll pay a driver for the job, and whatnot else but no dice. Yes, there's been arctic weather recently, but not for the whole of the last 6 weeks!! |
Did this get resolved? I'm looking to ship a ghia from California to Indiana and am looking for options |
It took 7 weeks plus a few extra days, but 4 Corners finally assigned a carrier. It's supposed to be picked up in a few days, so I won't count this as "resolved" until then. |

Ellen explained to me that the problem is suddenly the fact that no carriers were picking up and heading east from Eugene Oregon. California likely won't be an issue. This is the first real snag of any kind I've had with them in almost 8 years of dealing. Hopefully it's an outlier. _________________ Немає виправдання для війни! Я з Україною.

What should I expect to pay for shipping from CA to IN, about 2100 Miles. It's a $6500 car that needs painted, and time frame isn't critical. I've got estimates from $2500 to $900. My sister lives in Tuscon, so I could have it dropped off there, if it makes any difference, but still would have to end up in IN _________________ 1972 Karmann Ghia |

You can't go down the road for the cost of diesel fuel
It costs money to properly maintain your equipment
I just spent in the past two days in Tucson ...
$350 for a new receiver hitch
$500 for (3) new trailer tires
$450 to have my driveline rebuilt and balanced
I picked up this 1986 VW Syncro 4WD Van on Friday in Albuquerque, NM
and dropped it off Monday in Tucson, AZ
Talk directly to the person driving the truck pulling the trailer your vehicle
is in - pay no deposit unless they have to drive a considerable distance empty
to pick up your vehicle
It is another bad winter - haulers who value their Life & Equipment
don't drive in Winter Weather - they are going to be off the road
either in a ditch or at a truck stop waiting out a storm
If you are considering buying a vehicle that needs to be
picked up and/or dropped off in an area that is having Winter Weather ....
Make it a condition of the sale in writing prior to purchase that
the Seller agrees to store it until the Spring

Not bad advice at all. This winter has been a real mess, for sure. _________________ Немає виправдання для війни! Я з Україною.

They did have the lowest estimate ~$900. Ultimately I went with a company the seller has used in the past ~$1150 was what they quoted me. I'll report back how it goes. _________________ 1972 Karmann Ghia |

I just wanted to chime in here on my very fresh experience with shipping a Beetle convertible from CA to Long Island, NY. I called 4 Corners after reading here and visiting their website. spoke to a Jeff, gave me quotes for enclosed and open transport. He explained the process and after I made the deal, called for him to do his thing. I arranged for a certain date for pickup because of bank $$ transfer policies; the trucker called me and told me he was coming a day earlier! I was able to straighten that out. After a few days the guy texts me says he will be there the next day, I waited the whole day, he finally texted & said his lifts were broken and had to spend the day fixing it. The next day, it finally came. Now, I paid the extra money for an enclosed truck the convertible top is white and I wanted it and the car protected from the wintry weather cross country. The truck was a regular type with side and top curtains on it and my car was filthy! It also did not start! We had to push it off the truckt and into my garage, It seems while in transit, he must have moved it from spot to spot as he unloaded cars and must have left the key on, the coil and points were fried! He also broke the rear view mirror and put it in the glovebox.I know he did it because I had photos and I contacted the seller and he confirmed that the car was just washed the night before it was picked up. Being frustrated with the whole receiving process, I hurriedly filled out the damage report without mentioning the broken mirror and the filthy car. The next day, I called 4 Corners (Jeff) explained all this to him; he wanted an email with all info, pictures and prices for the parts, etc. He said he would call me the next day, it's been more than that, but I was able to talk to him tonight. He said the driver has not called him back but he said he is sending me a check from 4Corners to make it right, so good for him! Speedline Logistics Inc is the company that brought my VW, I would avoid this company if possible. Just some insight for anyone thinking of transport. I thought I was getting a nice hard covered truck, I got a crappy poor excuse for a covered truck!
UPDATE, Feb, 20. As promised, Jeff of 4 Corners credited my account to make up for SPEEDLINE LOGISTICS damage to my shipped '71 Beetle Convertible; if you need a broker who will do an honest job, call 4 Corners.

Forgot to update, I received my ghia from CA last friday. The pickup and delivery all went smooth $1150 to indiana on a open hauler with about 5 or 6 other cars. I was pleased with the whole transaction, great communication from REV Car go, Inc. _________________ 1972 Karmann Ghia |

My question is not directly related to the shipping part but it IS related to buying a vehicle that'll need a shipper.. and I could not find an answer anywhere else.
What's the best plan of action once a price (for the vehicle) is agreed upon? I sold my 914/6 about 11 years ago or so and can not remember exactly but it went something along the lines of:
1) the guy sent me a deposit and a bill of sale to sign (can that part be done electronically now?), (is there a standard purchase order/Bill of Sale on-line that can be used?),
2) I signed it and over-nighted it back to him
3) the guy sent me balance of the money over-night (can't remember if it was total sale price)
4) he had shipper pick up vehicle...then I over-nighted the title.
What's the general safe standard, or is there one? It was a give and take situation that felt protective for both parties but I can not remember exactly how it went. Plus the above ends up being a bit of a hassle (depending on the seller) especially when the car being purchased is already a great price. Thoughts?

Buyer & Seller Trust Each Other
Price Is Set
Money is Paid
Vehicle Transfers Ownership
The vehicles I haul are paid for most of the time by bank wire transfer
The Buyer pays in full - the Seller sends the title by overnight mail
Then the vehicle is picked up _________________ Jim is on the road @ http://www.trulyvintagetrailers.citymax.com/trulyvintage-feedback.html |

I've always had good luck with UShip, but I haven't used them in a year or so. I'm looking for a couple of bids on things (non-automobile), and they've been posted for days without a single bid. It's like a ghost town over there.
Has something happened with them or is it just the time of year? |

UShip just rolled out a better search which has been a disaster but they are telling us we want it ( can you tell eBay is a part owner of them..... ) |

Just wanted to share my positive experience using Jeff at 4 Corners Transport. I read the positive comments here and with prior experiences doing the whole car transport thing a few other times, thought I'd give Jeff a shot.
He worked with me on a couple of quotes as my deal came together. Very responsive and accommodating (had to change my order a few times). He was able to provide me with very competitive bids, and once the deal was done with my seller, I confirmed back to Jeff that we were a go.
We really lucked out as there was a transport driver in that market, and within an hour we had a confirmation on the order. The next morning my car was picked up. And amazingly, it arrived on the 3rd day. Incredibly fast. This was an Atlanta to Wisconsin trip!
Driver was great, and my car arrived in the exact shape that it was in when I purchased the car. Overall, couldn't have gone better for me.
Would gladly recommend Jeff at 4 Corners Transport, and when I do the transport thing again, that's who I'll be using.

Just adding for info, contacted four corners a few days ago to ship my newly acquired 58 double door from FL to NV, Jeff told me bus will be in the system to get picked up between 7th and 11th of May and to expect 7-9 days for shipping time. Will update when I have a carrier and with more info _________________ Alte Schule Vintage and Performance VW club
