|
|
Hello all,
I purchased a rotary dial switch for the sirens on my ambulance several years ago. We're now looking to fit it (eventually!), but have discovered that the spring has broken.
I've tried my local clockmakers, to no avail.
Does anyone know who may be able to supply the requisite spring, please?
We measure it as 4mm wide, 550mm long and 0,3mm thick.
I'm in South Africa. Happy to import.
Thank you. _________________ the3rdrock.com - …musings, discoveries and postulating, by a restless itinerant in search of enlightenment.

I don't think you're talking to the right clockmakers.
Isn't there something on this list that would work?

Look at 85035. |

Thanks coad. That's an awesome source!
We have limited supplies, here in dark Africa. _________________ the3rdrock.com - …musings, discoveries and postulating, by a restless itinerant in search of enlightenment.

That is a very, very common repair for even a novice clock repairman. You must really be in a craftsman "void" |

None of the locals have been able to assist thus far.
I'll keep on looking. Someone around must be able to do the job... _________________ the3rdrock.com - …musings, discoveries and postulating, by a restless itinerant in search of enlightenment.

Not sure who/ what you have there but try an antique tin toy repair person. The wind up spring for many old toys look similar. |

Thanks for the suggestion.
I don't even have a clue where to find someone like that in these parts.
I'll most likely be ordering from coad's suggested link above. Just confirming a few things with the local clockmaker before I order. _________________ the3rdrock.com - …musings, discoveries and postulating, by a restless itinerant in search of enlightenment.

Would it work if you bend the end over and use it shorter? |

My guess is that you would either have a shorter timer or that it would run to the end and possibly try to keep going?
I'd love to give you a more accurate answer, but the fact is that my father, over a thousand miles away, is stripping the mechanism on my behalf.
I'd rather find the correct spring than rush & hack. _________________ the3rdrock.com - …musings, discoveries and postulating, by a restless itinerant in search of enlightenment.
