Now, to just clear a spot next to my Wife's Prius....... |
Spring is right around the corner, so I vote y'all give the Prius some fresh air and sunshine, i.e., put it in the driveway |

Where do you keep the Vanagon and Beetle? Hopefully not out in the elements while the Prius enjoys the garage. |

The Beetle left several years ago.
I put a LOT of work and money into a unit I really didn't love or enjoy all that much.
I never liked Supers, even when new on the show room floor.
While over time they grew on me, I no longer hate them ....... but they are simply lacking somehow........ no soul?
When the Beetle left it left a "vacuum" in the garage which was quickly filled by my Wife's DD.
I freely admit that we BOTH like parking the DD in the garage.
No more morning ice scraping or snow removal.
No blistering hot interior from being parked in the sun.
Tree Sap build up is greatly reduced!
If a sudden storm blows in, no rushing out to roll up windows.
The camper?
Well yes, he sleeps outside......... he fits in the garage but he quite honestly is a little rotund and makes the garage quite crowded.

It's about fn time, after 9 years, it's time to sh*# or get off the pot. Any longer & you'll have to sweep half of it off the ground to make room for another. _________________ Everybody born before 1975 has a story, good, bad, or indifferent, about a VW.

I'm so motivated that I was out looking at the poor soul and started a DEPRESSING list of needed basics to get the ball roliing.
I went on KGPR's site...... which is fine but I find paper paper more user friendly than virtual catalouges.
Fortunately I've saved my old printed material.
My prized catalouge is House Of Ghias printed parts book. Can you still get them? They are a wealth of information!
Sadly funds are tight right now. We purchased a "retirement" home out in Pennsylvania and have been rebuilding that on weekends.
I dug out some old stale air heater noxes I'm going to put on the classifieds here and see if I can get me some headlamp buckets and other "must haves".
I can make a lot of the tin bits but some items are too much of a bother.

That's got to be a rarity. I imagine it's similar to the Spring 2009 pdf version HOG had made available back then; chock-full of details written in a no-nonsense style.

That leaves five days a week for the Ghia; yea! Lots of folks retiring hereabouts become snowbirds, migrating south only to return return in Spring. |

I just read this excellent thread by J1 about replacing rocker panels.....
https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=...mp;start=0
If we as a forum were to give out prizes for the most helpful threads...... THIS one gets the Gold prize!!
There is another but the author didn't host his photos here and Photobucket rendered his thread all but worthy of being deleted for it is of zero value today.
I sent him a PM inquiring about restoring the photos.
https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=441089
Anyway, E1 started with my 2x3 rectangular tube idea but abandoned it for aftermarket panels.
I don't blame him at all!
I have metal experience and I fear doing this project and have put it off for almost a decade now.......
I've been staring at this all day. Looking at my books, back out to the car, making notes.......
E1 has CONVINCED me that my rectangular tube idea will work. I reckon it may possibly be easier that repop tin.
That said I've taken some pictures to show you what real Jersey road rot looks like.
This car was purchased new in Jersey, spent all of its time in NJ and the original owners (at last check a number of years ago) still live in the same house!
I will need both "doglegs" the curved "heater channel" to the left of the pedals (on the drivers side)
***********
Here is the Left Front "A" Pillar, I began work on it before the Super Vert found me......
***********
Lets look at the rear torsion spring area.......
***********
And to the untouched Right "A" Pillar......
The right rear was more of the same though less serious than the left.
I think that with the road crown salty slush accumulates along the gutter hence the rust is often more severe.

Why yes, yes I have. I got a REALLY good look at them while swapping the pans. The only hole that I found was on the top of the passenger side channel near the foot well, probably from windshield leaking onto the carpet. _________________ Everybody born before 1975 has a story, good, bad, or indifferent, about a VW.
