There has been talk about DMV taxing our cars if it's a new registration event. They would like to put a value on the car, instead of a flat fee when you reg your car....as a suggestion, don't do any more to your car than neccessary to reg it at the DMV. Get your paperwork done and get title, before you put a ton of money into it.
This day will come !!! |
Damn right it will. If there's one constant in the universe, it's that the State of California will figure out a way to get every dollar of your money It feels justified in taking. _________________ -Tim

It isn't hard to spend tht much already on a quality build, with how California is legislating out quality chrome replating, paint, thinners and other necessary materials. Either we have to outsource from another state or suffer seriously inferior products that still cost more than quality out of state equivalents. _________________ -Tim

Question(s).I live in Calif.,want to know
1.How long does it take for a VW Vin/registration to GET off the DMV books?
2.I have heard thet if your car is 25 years and older, you can claim your car and a collector car.So no back fees are due?
3.What are the Ca.,DMV,rules/laws that I can look up on their web site?
I bought a 67 VW,seller said it was on a non-op.Well I did not check, and it has $650,back fees according to the VIN ,I checked online.
ANY AND ALL HELP PLZ. Thank All !! |

Yes, they will be a stickler for back fees if you can't prove it was non-op.
Funny thing is, I had my non-op paperwork, and my car was out of their system, supposedly normal after 7 years. They took my word/paperwork, and did not make me pay any back fees.
They let me keep my original blue plate only if I declared myself a collector. All I had to do was self-identify. This was due to some legwork by the kindly lady in a small town DMV. The big city DMVs all said "no way" to my blue plates.
So smile a lot, be patient, and pick a non-busy time in a smaller town's DMV office. |

i was in ca dmv and trying to non op my stepdads 37 ford rod with no luck, they wanted like 600 in back fees since after he died no one non oped. i mutterer 600 for old collector car not drove in 10 years. dmv guy said oww if collector car you can non op any time, just fill out this paper. i did and then i said hey lets non op my 66 chevelle convertible, and 69 charger and 42 jeep. no problem and no fees. so try that. most dmvs wont tell you loopholes, they want money |

I know of 2 buses right now that will be over 100K in the restore, so it is very possible.
As far as reging in Cali,if it's outa the system, I've had the best luck just saying you lost the title and need a new one. Don't bring in past paperwork or current bills of sale. It'll just confuse them.
Just tell them you lost the title and need a new one. Again, this only works if the car is outa the system. A loophole that works everytime. _________________ Looking for SP Kadron manifolds...please !!
