NEED ADVICE! Converting heater boxes into j tubes.

I have a 56 oval build. Ovaltine that I am working on.

I am somewhat of a newbie when it comes to the engine side of things, but have done body and suspension work many times.

My heater boxes are pretty beat up, have crust and rust all over them, and flaps etc are pretty seized up.

This will be a summer car for me only and I do not intend to use heat.

I am wondering if I take my zip cut to the side of the heater box, will everything mechanically still function correctly if I just run the tube from inside without the heater boxes?

They are probably better than you think. Those are the earlier style so you can get pretty good money for them.

Sell them to someone who is restoring a car and buy some aftermarket J pipes.

My VWs are always summer cars, but I still run heater boxes. Nice to have something to take the chill off on a cool evening of cruising!

You can also just buy j-tubes from Vintage Speed for 36hp engines
