|
|
Everyone -
I just got new keys for my 67. Having trouble locking and unlocking the doors. I removed the handles and they are in good shape. When I check the internal lock, it has 50 years of crud on it.
When I push and pull the door lock on the door it is very sticky. What's the best way to clean and lubricate the internal lock mechanism back into shape? I was thinking brake part cleaner to break up the crud, and then WD-40 or white lithium grease to lubricate.

VW recommends engine oil on the lock assembly in the door.
I'd take the handle apart, clean and deburr it, then lube with a synthetic oil that won't get thick when cold. There are threads that detail this process for years around that time... may not be 100% the same but you'll get the idea. |

Try removing the screw-on lock pull. You’ll see a threaded rod. Oil the rod. Use a decent amount of oil so that it gets down in there. Also, oil in the hole the other poster showed.
