Nothing more than a slight self-gratuitous post but here at the results of the restoration of my steering column. The cab of my bus was in a fire and was totally fried. I took these pieces and ground them back to bear metal then primed them before the final coat in satin black. I've not painted or sprayed before so I am very pleased with the results.
I lost the keys and with the help of this forum I leanred how to get the barrel out and find my key code to get new keys cut. The barrel housing is a replacement supplied by someone of the forum too - it even came with the tiny grub screw which I wasn't expecting.
Now if only I could get one of the those sticks for the top of the housing that had the German words which I never did take the time to translate:

Nice work! The stickers are sold at Wolfsburg West, but I’m not sure about worldwide suppliers. Either way, they’re black text on a silver background, instead of the early bay white text on a dark grey background.
Good luck!

Very nice work! I appreciate when people take the time to "fine finish" their parts.

First, here’s a link to the sticker

Next,
Last year I bought a complete steering column assembly just like yours for my 1971 bus. My intent is to have the ignition lock rekeyed to match my bus and repaint it with the correct black which can be found under paint codes in the technical section. Then finally install my new sticker.
So congratulations on a fine job well done.
PS- now that I think about it, I might have a NOS electrical switch to add. _________________ Lead Mechanic: San Diego Air and Space Museum
