Oh come on....... he's new here and asked for help on how to fix this.....
You need to block sand (very fine wet/dry sandpaper wrapped around a rubber or felt block) the rough areas.
Some careful hand sabding in the intricate curves of the Ghia body will be required too.
This is most often done using liberal quantities of clean water to flush away the paint as you sand.
You don't want to remove much paint, just knock off the high spots, genarally a 1500 geit or sompaper would be used.
Doing this will smooth out your paint but leave it very dull, lacking gloss.
Depending upon the paint used, you can use rubbing compound and buff this out and it will result in a nice shine...... which may last for years or fade quickly away.
With a very light touch and multiple 10's of hours of work it should come out OK.
Or at least much better than it is now.

It's possible that those are rust bubbles forming, or it could be from contamination in the primer causing the paint to start to lift (Diesel soot is known to cause this.). Keep an eye on them & see if they continue growing or if it was just paint that was too "dry" by the time it got to the car. _________________ Everybody born before 1975 has a story, good, bad, or indifferent, about a VW.

There is a nice step by step tutorial with photos in the Body/Paint section on getting rid of the orange peel in paint. You can find it here:

There is also a possibility that this was surface rust that was not cleaned/treated/sanded & was just painted over & as the paint is curing (getting thinner) these high points are "pushing up". If this is the case, wet sanding is just going to expose these high points. _________________ Everybody born before 1975 has a story, good, bad, or indifferent, about a VW.

Color sanding is not going to solve that issue. That is most likely a problem with a chemical reaction/incompatibility issue with what was used and what was on there or it was not cleaned properly. It needs to be sanded down, sealed, and repainted. |
