So I recently acquired a new bay window single cab and I’ll admit I’ve been spending more time with it to the neglect of my bus. In fact, the bus is getting more than a little jealous. I’ve installed a tach, new radio, seat belts, heater levers and side reflectors. And the SC has been the one, lately, to take me when I needed to go somewhere. The bus is getting just a little bit fed up with playing second fiddle so today I took it out of the garage and gave it a long overdue washing. I was hoping they’d get along but I’ve got to figure out how to balance time and attention to both of them.
If you’ve had this dilemma, too, I’d like to know how you’ve handled it. _________________ David

Nice score,I have a soft spot for bay window trucks..
I feel your pain,In the next couple of weeks,Ill be bringing home an all numbers matching unmolested '56 Oval..that one is going to be a complete body-off resto that ill be putting back to stock showroom condition..
It's a much needed project that will keep me in the garage for a couple of years..
Problem is,Someone has to live outside in the warm months, stored somewhere in the winter to make room in my already cramped laboratory..
And it wont be my "delicate flower" Karmann Ghia..
I can hear my bus now.."20+ years, daily driver, cross country reliable trips, thousands on bodywork and you're putting me outside for that piece of shit?! don't care if it's an Oval...you suck man!"
He's right you know..I'll get the best cover I can buy, drive him lots and build him his backup engine in the meantime.."How bout I make it up to you Pedro? Nice 1776 with some dual Kads soften the deal?"
Until I expand my empire with more buildings, this is what comes with the territory, but even then,I'll still be short on space.."This garage is too big" said no one ever _________________ '68 Campmobile-Pedro

You just have to let them take turns. That's what I do.
Sometimes I drive one for a couple days and sometimes a different one for a couple days.
Some times I will break it up by day parts, even!
In fact yesterday I drove the '73 Bus on a couple errands in the morning.
Then, since it had warmed up significantly, I untarped the Thing and drove it in the afternoon.
Later when I went to a friend's house for dinner, it was the '78 Bus.
If one has been out of the rotation for repairs or service for a while, it usually gets a few extra days before I swap to a different VW. You know, to be fair!
I have literally let coin flips decide which vehicle I drive that day. Heads, a car, tails a bus. Then depending on which category wins I flip for which Bus or car (Thing or Golf). _________________ Dave Cook

Just drive the single cab until you need to haul something that can't be outside. _________________ nothing |

Quite the conundrum you have there. Your single cab looks very clean and dry? Original paint?
I have three air cooled VW's. The sad part is they don't get the daily attention they deserve. I still try to pass the love around between them weekly. _________________ Contact me at [email protected]

If its already a problem with just 2 you'd better stop parking them so close together or they might breed! |

I got rid of these damn Buses and got into Type 3s. They don't have these insecurity issues. _________________ Немає виправдання для війни! Я з Україною.

Breakdowns determine the rotation of my fleet. If I'm sick of a certain repair it gets to wait until inspiration returns. If its been more than a year since its been driven , time to sell. _________________ Fat chick owner/operator |
