used to see some buggies running air bag suspension, doesn't seem like I've seen much anymore. I remember ppl saying they liked them because they were a naturally progressive 'spring ' and kinda had a built in bump stop. anyone use / used are bags and have any input on pros & cons? |

Yeah but off road scene is going way deeper into coil overs and nitrogen shocks..... More controllable and takes up less real estate....

to play devils advocate, theyve been into coil overs for a long time now, im not sure about the real estate because those coil overs a huge (and i remember some bag buggies that they didnt even put compressors on, just an air valve on each bag). and arent the bags pretty tunable as well? |

funco does use them still i think, its like an airbag and a coilover in one. airbagover?
anyway, funco used them and so did sinister sand sports.
fair warning, the crappy air shocks you can get for overloading your pickup at ride height are not a good substitute for air bags. they work until a bag pops or an eyelet breaks off from the stress. _________________ Just a dirty coyote playing in the desert.

Just for clarity, this is type of coilover/shock I was referencing to...

ok ok, i dont think we need to dumb things down so far as to discuss the difference between air bag & crappy air shock, or coil over vs. empi spring over shock.. God help us if we do! heh heh
and yeh i remember one sand car mfg. that used air bags, didnt know who it was. i always figured bags ( if they worked good) would be a lower cost option to coilovers and never read anyone that tried but but figured you could inflate the bags with nitrogen instead of air..? |

As far as be buggies go, air bags are most popular with the woods buggy crowd. You just don’t see many of them on sand rails and street rails. Woodsbuggy.com has been pretty dead for quite sometime, but there are several good examples on there. Unfortunately most the images were hosted by photobucket, which sucks, so lots of dead links. If you got guys into woods buggies in your area, chances are a hand full of them may have air bags. There are a number of guys here in Michigan running them. _________________ 1800 Type 4 Berrien 295

Ive ridden in a few Funcos and they ride amazing but bags can leak and dont work well with beam front ends . Right now the Fox Coil-over with internal bypass is the hot ticket. |

Air bags in the front? Never had my eyes on a beam set up with air bags. Only on the rear trailing arms. Interesting... _________________ 1800 Type 4 Berrien 295
