Hi everyone,
I´ve got my certificate and as options is mention M 018 (post on the subject). I´m really confuse because I had read a lots and it´s not clear for me what is that.
I know for sure that was for the Swedish market, and in argentina we receive from everywhere.
But was an additional light ? different kind of glass for the back lights ? glass or plastic ? hella ?
I´ll appreciate your kindly help.
In my certificate is mention 7 extras/options but i´m stopped just in this.
Best regards to all.

When was your car produced and is it Argentinean market, or brought in from another country (gray market)? _________________ Thanks,

My June 1954 was imported into San Francisco and has that same option. I don't know what it means but I'm also curious.

Most of these M code items indicate equipment that was installed on export cars. Some of these items probably came on the car whether it was ordered that way or not. Once again, this shows that the overrider bumpers were earlier equipment than some people think. I'm also assuming that "oversize reflector" is M code-speak for the eggshell taillights. _________________ We are striving for perfection, to make our cars run forever, if possible.

My UK car, June '55, has this option also. The rear heart tail lights are original to the car and look exactly the same as all the other heart lights I've ever seen, so not sure what it specifies. |

Yes. From time to time I've read that the overriders started in 1955 but there's clear proof that they were used at least as early as mid-1954.
This Consumers Report magazine is dated October 1954 but typically they were printed a month ahead of the cover date, and of course the test drives would have been done prior to that.
The article included this comment:

Most Volkswagens being delivered in this country are equipped with bumper extensions. These are a $30 extra not included in the list price but CU considers them desirable on the VW. |

The M018 is probably the dark diffuser behind the glas, it was put there because some countries thought the original lens gave too bright light. _________________ I got a historic car, every scratch got a history...

I've never seen bullets in South America. We have plenty of cars from Argentina in Brazil. I know more than hundreds came from there, and all are semaphores cars. All cars delivered to other countries besides Brazil are Euro spec cars, only Brazil are CKD. _________________ 1957 Typ 113 - Polarsilver

No, Cozy72, the glass lenses in your picture are for the taillights, not for the brake lights. The brake lights were on top of the tail-light assembly for that design, and were heart shaped.
IMO AlteWagen has it right. The chevron and alternate Swedish larger reflector designs in the glass lenses pictured above are M018 AFAIK.
