I bought a pan buggy and was told the engine was a 52, but I can’t figure out the right year with all the differences online. It has a hand start pully if that makes a difference. Any help is greatly appreciated!

$200. Running or not, it's a core motor unless proven otherwise by complete teardown. It's missing a lot of tin and the tin that is there is... orange.

It looks like you have a split case transmission too. Find out if it matches the motor year/month. If it shifts nicely you might just get lucky and find someone that's looking for both.

... i'd pay a LOT more than $200 for a good running 36... one with great compression could fetch upwards of a grand... have accurate compression readings available and ability to hear it run would be a good selling point... wish you were near me, in Oklahoma.
