Hello Peter
If you want to keep the original look with RGB's you can use VW181 parts:The 181s with small nut RGBs came with 0,82 4th.
3,875 / 1,39 RGB with 1500cc engine and 1,26 RGB with 1600cc engine. |
Thanks El safari, I've been searching for these gears for quite some time, but without any luck.
But if I'm going with a later type engine in the end, I don't think a 46mm rear axle nut will bother me too much. _________________ My 1958 PGSG project topic |

Time for a Christmas holiday update!
While I was prepping to further paint the inside of the bus I came across some holes and thin spots in the rear firewall.
I had some donor metal in house, so I decided to cut out a big chunk instead of patching the holes (and burning through the thinned metal )
I roughly copied the outline on the donor part.
Test fitting and cutting. Took me quite some fiddling with magnets and clamps but finally managed
All welded and grinded smooth. Not my best result with some heat warping and pigeon sh*t welding, but it'll be painted in RX10 (POR equivelant) and covered by sound deadening/paneling.
Merry Christmas to you all! _________________ My 1958 PGSG project topic |

Yes only some small jobs I've been doing.
We're expecting our first born in a few weeks, so all of a sudden you start thinking about improving safety a bit
I upgraded the brake system to dual circuit.
I'm also looking into installing disk brakes at some point.
Also I'm in the progress of installing seat belts. I ordered some beige ones which actually match the soft green very nicely
To fit them I got T5 seat belt brackets (https://www.ebay.com/itm/272420378826) which fit in the B-pillar and because they're VW
To improve the gas pedal responsiveness a bit, I installed a buttys bits kit.
(I think I have to check the linkage to the pedal itself as it seems to be a bit poorly aligned)
And last but least I started filling/sanding the right ass, to see if I can start some paint blending

Is there enough room to just move the ball swivel to the other side. Of course you have to undo the main mount bolt to switch it. |

Since I became a proud father of a baby boy two weeks ago, I wasn't able to spend too much time on the bus lately. Today though I spend some time painting the rear corners
I asked for advice in the body/paint section on blending OG paint and got some great tips!
Before (filled, primered and wet sanded with p2000).
Aaand after
Also painted the fuel door
I’m really happy with the first results. The match is spot on!
I had it scanned and mixed based on the rear lid.
After final curing, I’ll buff away the spray dust and give it a final polish and wax.
I was pleased to see the fuel door lock tab is original
It's all in the details
Thanks for watching! _________________ My 1958 PGSG project topic |

Thanks all! Really encouraging!
Other places to be blended are both rockers, nose and both front doors.
That's gonna be a huge job, but I can't wait to get cracking _________________ My 1958 PGSG project topic |
