Any Recommendations for Eurovan Engine Work in Atlanta Ga?

97 Eurovan had a catastrophic issues on a recent trip. First Battery light came on, then Check engine, then Flashing Check engine, by the time I could get it off the road safely it had blown all the coolant.

Local VW Independent (who has done good work previously) is recommending a motor swap vs. rebuild. They are unable to get it to run for long enough to get the diag. to run. The suspect a "bad hole".

Hard to tell if they don't want to do the rebuild or if the engine is really toast.

Any thoughts on next steps and any recommendations for shops in Atlanta appreciated.

Well I'd request a compression test first thing. Maybe you overheated it enough to compromise the head gasket, possibly worse. Compression check then, if necessary, a leak down test to further isolate.
