VW Bentley list a wiring diagram for 1967 - 1969.

While most of this 69 diagram is fine, that fact changes dramatically when you get to the dash area.

The Four Way Flasher and turn signal systens are radically different.

They are strangely 1970 like.

Sadly if you own a Bentley for your 1969 Ghia, the 1970 wiring is in a separate book!

The diagrams are hosted here on the Samba in the technical section in the owner manual section.

1970.......

Doing some searching in the forums there are a few posts over the years about this overlooked change.....

I would suggest that if you own a 69 Ghia you print out the 70 wiring diagram and keep it in your Bentley.

I wondered, "Is VW really that clueless about their Progressive Changes?"

I went to the parts book to find out.

Illustration for flasher relay.......

You can see the model year break on the flasher relays, they are clearly different beginning at chassis number 149 000 001

Maybe it is a Bentley screw up? Who knows?

here is a diagram for my 69 that shares the 70 wiring. I cleaned this up in photoshop and modified it to resemble the real wiring on a 69..ie tail lights front signals etc...I also moved some of the relays and things around to be more accurate as to the actual location..I also removed several things I don't have in my 69 stock sedan like buzzers, atf wires, defrost wires, etc

..there is also a big brown bar with a bunch of tabs I installed as a common ground for a bunch of extra gauges that still need power and sender wires to be added so just ignore that. I went over this several times and its 98%accurate to the 69 body with 70 wiring

Hope this can be helpful..

Wow!!

That is amazing work of art!!

I had wondered if anyone might have done this but wrote it. Off as a huge undertaking and dismissed the thought.

Pat yourself on the back!

Actually you can add late 68 to this. VW made changes on some of the electrical mid production for type l and ll’s (lll’s I don’t know) . Early 68 is more similar to the 67 chart. Ignition and brake warning light is obvious differences. Late 68 and 69 will share similarities to 70-71. Maybe the diagrams on here can be edited to compensate for that, regardless of what errors or not Bentley may have published and to what is listed here.

Art, I just printed out your merged diagram on 11 x 17 paper to keep with my up to 69 Bentley. Now I don't need to carry the orange Bentley too!

Thanks!

hey thats great! Thanks for the compliment...I remember trying to re-wire my car and ripping my hair out constantly because nothing was matching. So I had to do it for my own brain. I have never understood why wiring diagrams/schematics almost never reflect what can be seen visually. Also, I have this speedo

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

and it has a bulb slot for either the parking lights or low beam ..the one on the top right...That wire is not reflected in the original diagram so I added it as a low beam indicator light. It is connected to the yellow wire that come from the fuse box to the low beams....my diagram may not be perfect, so let me know if you see an anomaly...
