there's lots of threads on lens cleaning and good ideas. just did this yesterday using only a triple rinse of 91% isopropyl alcohol. worked great, left no residue and sparkly clean with no scrubbing widgets/salt/brushes necessary.
dirty lens
clean lens

I’ve had similar results. As long as the plastic reflectors are in good shape, an interior cleaning can bring a lot of function back from dirty lights. Yours look to be in pretty good shape. |

the VERY astute will notice that, yes, these are different headlights. i had 2 pairs of fogged over lights but used these units as the adjusters were in great shape. regardless, they cleaned up just as well.

i'm trying out the Phillips Vison Plus lamps in all these lights. that, along with cleaning and headlight relays should improve things a tad.
the Vision Plus have "60% more light" and i'll assume 60% less life so i'll be carrying spares!

I have a nice set of stock squares on my van, but I've already put a deposit on a turn key set of E code headlights from Bus Depot. I'm looking forward to the change.
The Vanagon square headlights were anemic even when they were new. |
