Can anyone identify this axle?
First thought was a VW Caddy.

VW Caddy has 4 lug and not 5 wide lug.

So I am back to square one.

What vehicle had leaf springs and 5 wide? Is this a front or rear axle?

Please excuse my ignorance on this subject. I love classic cars, but have never owned a VW.

Back axle of an Hormiga or other EA489 Basistransporter derivative, what country did these pictures come from?

It is possible someone has welded VW spindles onto a pipe and added the springs. I did that once with Toyota front spindles.
