OK so another issue so another question for Samba!
The fan (I'm assuming for the heater) switch located by the lights & hazard knobs - is that knob for the heater? If so, is there a motor or similar that should come on when you turn the knob? I turn the fan knob and nothing works. I think i can turn it twice - as in it clicks twice.
I also have issues with the normal air coming to the windscreen but I'll tackle this first!
On a side note, I have purchased a Haynes manual - this should shed light on most issues for me?
As always, thanks in advance... |

That fan has nothing to do with the heater, it's for fresh air ventilation only (i.e. air from the vents in the cowl at the base of the windshield). _________________ 1965 Volkswagen 1500 Variant S

Yup, and there are 3 settings on the speed of the motor. Setting #1, some noise and no airflow. Setting #2, more noise and a little airflow. Setting #3, lots of noise and a little more airflow than setting #2. It's not for heat, and isnt even ducted into the heating system. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

OK thanks.
So clearly the fan 'speed' doesn't work. Any ideas as to how to fix or why it wouldn't????? |

OK nothing when I turn the knob. It turns but no noise or change in airflow...plus the airflow on driver's side is constantly on...another issue I'll post about in time. |

That means you'll need to pull the airbox out and split it, as the motor is inside it. Some are held in place with 10mm headed screws, while some use a 5 or 6mm allenhead screw. I've ran into both, so just beware of it. Most times though, the motor shaft has stuck to the bearings, and just needs to be freed up to run again. You'll need to drop the radio out first to access it. Unplug the battery first though, as some items have full time battery voltage to them, and you don't want to let out all of the "magic smoke" that makes electrical stuff work.
I hope this helps. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

Magic, thanks!
I know where to look.
As a side note, the knobs that control the air vents in the centre of the dash - one works and one doesn't. I guess somewhere it's all connected maybe. But is it a common issue that the knob won't turn? These knobs stop airflow into the car altogether. Actually, the know turns but it appears the cable looks stuck/jammed. |

Yes, the knobs open and close the flaps on the air box. If the knob won't turn, then the linkage is probably jammed. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

Thanks but probably more hassle than its worth. It'll hardly make a change so I'll just leave as is |
