So i've heard 1960 should be equipped with only 1 visor, Im curious of the consensus of the Samba group.

I do remember in a junk yard many years ago saving what I would call a chrome delete plug from passengers side rear view mirror in a early beetle that had only one visor.

Yes, 1960 was the last year for no passenger visor, and the first year for the padded style visors. That delete plug was only used on Deluxe models in 1960, IIRC.

Unless it is a convertible. They have two visors.

The other point about the 1960 visor is that it was a one year only part. It is a horizontal ribbed style. I don't think it is being reproduced at this time. The reproduction visors fit the 1960 but they are not quite correct in matching the original pattern.

Indeed, 1960 has only one visor from the factory, as stated above. My 1960 came with one visor and a chrome plug on the passenger side and it is a hardtop.

Unless it's documented that they only left the factory with one and passenger visors were only a dealer add-on, I don't think you can definitively say that all 1960 Beetles came with only 1 visor. My hardtop was built in October '59 and has both original, 'ribbed' style visors.

The owners manual is good evidence, in another post i saw someone mentioning they have the original invoice stating extra visor. I'm leaning towards the passengers side visor would be a dealer add-on such as the side view mirrors and radio/antenna

My Feb. 1960 pretty much original bug had 2 visors(ribbed 1960 only style.). They certainly may well have been a dealer installed option. It would be easily and quickly done. I suspect it would have been a very popular and desirable option. I recall owning a single visor 1959 bug and receiving a lot of complaints from my passenger regarding the lack of a visor.

There's VW at it again- the cheap way to making the same parts fit RHD or LHD cars.

Actually, that's not correct about LHD and RHD - the angle of the glass is different between the two - and they had different part numbers.

As stated user manuals are good evidence, and my car is very much original. I have the paper work from 1960 for it. The car was never touched as for a rebuild until I took it apart and at that time it had one visor for the driver and a chrome plug for the passenger side. My car was also sold March 15th 1960. I kept the original visor but I did not put it in the car since the vinyl is brittle and the insides a fine powder and running out of it xP

What are the passenger side chrome plugs mentioned? There’s only a single mount in the center of the window. Question

Im guessing, maybe a plug to fill the bore in the mirror mount that the missing passenger side visor rod slips into?

Interesting they had passenger-ready mount even though the plugs were in. Does that mean passenger visors were an option? Otherwise would have been an earlier design.

Simply a dealer-purchased addition part- whether with the car sale or later. Just a dealer add on slapped on the sticker. I hunching around $6?

My feb 1960 beetle also has 2 sun visors made with the same one year ribbed 1960 style vinyl. Pondering if possibly all Australian beetles from 1960 on had 2 sun visors?

That would be neat to learn. You folks got a few super-hot and always super-dusty additions to your cars.
Now, how to track down all the remaining original '60 beetles in Australia... Cool
