seeing it has no generator and it's an oval dressed up as a later model, I suppose it's a herbie movie car built for a specific stunt.

I see it has a small electric fan and the intake manifold is on backwards too. My best guess is that the body is on the chassis backwards. I think it is a "Herbie" designed for the stunt of high speed driving backward.

I did not know the Bug intake manifold could be bolted on backwards! That could look real clean in a beach buggy. With an electric fuel pump and a hidden crank fire ignition it would be a very minimalist exposed engine.

It looks too nice, and too well done to be a Herbie Stunt Car,
but there in nothing in the photo to say it's not a Herbie Stunt Car.

I found the picture on an aircooled VW Facebook group. No information was with the picture, but it really belongs here.

Probably for those backwards driving scenes.

The "backwards Herbie" is at Nelson's Garage Car and Motorcycle Museum in Deadwood, SD
It is a 1957 with the body mounted backwards so that the steering is done from the "rear" wheels for Herbie Rides again.

I would love to see how the steering is setup on this. You can see in the picture that the steering wheel is still in the correct location.

I bet the wheel in the correct location is a dummy and the actual steering wheel and all the controls face backwards hidden somewhere below the beltline.

Some think that if your beetle has a padded dash, it's an engine donor. Some think that if it has push button door handles, it's a boat anchor.

Porsche actually cut 17 inches out of this 911 to make it look more like the cartoon car Disney/Pixar drew for The movie CARS.

I've seen this car before online. I believe it has a type 3 generator mounted under the engine. It is a Herbie stunt car. Kind of cool how they modified the engine to make it work with a reversed body.

Amazing f'ing car! I love the late model inspiration. I'd love to see the engine-- no shots of it in the video.

Most people get the retro styling thing soooooo wrong (Prowler, SSR, 2001-2005 T-Bird the to name a few)....THAT VW roadster is almost perfect - they blew it with the rear bumper - integrating a front bumper in the back would have worked much better IMHO...and theres one or two little things, but otherwise great work..
