Dig it!
Is that with the narrowed arms? Looks like the front is tucking nicely. |

Hey.. Great job
I really like what you did with the car - step by step. Not an over-restauration but brought the car back on the road incl. some modifications.
Really like your car. |

How do you like the ride with your new suspension set up? How does it do at highway speeds?

Not much new to report. Made several local shows over the summer. and one long distance show for the second time since the Rat's been on the road. Volksfest in Moxee Wa. 700 miles round trip. Had a great time with a small group of us that caravan-ed together. Here are some of the pics.

So what would be the effects of a mis-shimmed engine mount? My car being a swing axle car I have the one single top engine hanger that has a series of shims between the body and the mount. I presume this is to mimic a pinion angle of sorts. And what should the angle be? I have temporarily misplaced my Bentley. _________________ My build thread(The desert Rat). http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=653395 |

It's actually a torque device. It should have between 5 and 7 shims installed. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

So if the shim count is not correct, how does the car react? _________________ My build thread(The desert Rat). http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=653395 |

You end up loading the rubber bushing, as it's actually lifting the engine up in the rear (and putting a load on the front trans mount). You might try getting some steel washers to replace the shims temporarily. Ideally, you want that tube in the center of the rubber bushing, with no load in any direction on it. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

I finally found a visor and wood slat roof rack that I believe to be a pedro rack, but there is zero markings on it that I've been looking for, for like a year. It was quite the adventure getting them from their location. They where located in Southern California and I'm in Middle of Oregon. Seller had them listed as local pick up only. So after a few text messages to a couple of friends, a band of brotherhood created a parts relay and was able to transport them to Oregon. It was kinda humorous, each time there was a hand off exchange I would get a picture sent to me like a garden gnome. took nearly two months.

My hunt continues. The visor and rack look awesome! |
