I used to have a bicycle cable lock that I used to keep the hood for the front boot on my girlfriend's Beetle from flying up. Is there a way I can keep the boot on my '73 bay from popping open with the same cable setup? Google is no help here at all. Crying or Very sad

The title of this thread Is How to lock your 1968 to 1973 volkswagen bus. My buddy has a 1968 and watched this video. Now he can only lock it. There is no trigger as shown to open door. Edit: After much frustration we noticed the video said 1969-1973. Now he can open the door again Laughing

Thanks, now that I have the skill, I'll keep working on it until it truly becomes "art"!

If this is satire, it's brilliant.

It has to be satire.

Right?

As dumb as erb's videos are, we do get a lot of entertainment out of them. I rarely actually laugh out loud at stuff on the internet, but with the commentary and video headings I struggle to keep quiet.

first set of
Questions:

1. Why doesn't your passenger door and sliding door unlock from the outside with your key?
-The one key works on all locks both do work from the outside. I was trying to show in the video that you can lock the cargo door from the inside and the key won't work. I had the cargo door locked from the inside though and unlocked outside on the key. It was so cold outside the passenger door was frozen, i didn't want to force it or wreck it its 40+ years old.

2. What if you don't have a key? go to locksmith

3. Why doesn't the key work the other way around?
-on almost all older busses they only have keys in one direction. bidirectional keys were introduced in the 90s a good way to know if your locks that have been replaced at some point is if you have bidirectional keys.
front doors key goes toward back of bus
rear hatch to left
cargo to back of bus

4. Why do you have a hanging light in your bus? Don't you bonk your head on it? you figure it out.

carlos if your lock won't work on the inside then you need to latch the door up on the outside to get it to line up right if thats not working door either needs adjustment or the latch under the slider mechanism is not working right and thats a whole other thread..

My Passenger door lock seems to work exactly like my drivers door. Does this mean my passenger door lock is broken? Also, it seems the key has to point towards the back of the bus for my passenger door too, do I have a drivers door lock on my passenger side door? Please advise

that is correct like in the video facing toward the back
