So the lower section of the steering column on my 85 doesn't match up very well, and I'm wondering if a piece is popping out of there.
Ya know I hate it when pieces are popping out.
What I'm looking at is this right above the spring.
Is the spring supposed to go up to the base?

So this seems to be an unknown.
I understand that it's normally hidden behind the steering column cover, but if anyone finds themselves with the cover off, I'd sure appreciate a pic or just a mention, if that sleeve piece is supposed to be jutting out like that. _________________ One of these days I'm gonna settle down,

Ok I found a pic and apparently that sleeve is supposed to be sticking out. _________________ One of these days I'm gonna settle down,

Thanks Jim
As you can see in the top pic, the mounting bolt holes didn't line up, by the same approximate distance as that sleeve above the spring juts out.
I'll figure it out. _________________ One of these days I'm gonna settle down,
