Not sure the correct terminology, but should one lubricate the pins that the brake pads slide on on an early WBX with the early style dual piston calipers? _________________ 1984 Vanagon GL

Yes you should.
There is special grease for it.

I tend to buff them on the wire brush as well.

If the surface is rough, replace the pins. Using a wire wheel to clean the pins usually removes a lot of the plating that is protecting the metal. Without the plating the pins will rust very quickly, especially in areas where road salt is used.
