Trying to find a source for a new gauge sender that isn't a POS

I've been advised that the Wolfsburg West senders are garbage

Does anyone know of a quality sender that's being made today

New VDO gauges of all lengths, made in Brazil:

https://www.egauges.com/category-s/33327.htm

I have the 280mm in my '58 KG....it works perfectly (the red crimp shield has been corrected and is now heat-shrinked Wink ).

Measuring an original German VDO it came out to this one https://www.egauges.com/7-5-190mm-90-0-Ohms-p/224-219.htm

I have two on order there but they guy said they are back ordered. Should I change to 280mm?

No! Don’t change your order....get whichever fits your tank. I only mentioned mine as a reference to almost any length being available depending on the tank depth.

sub-hatchtim I hope you didn't think I was steppin' on your thread.

Also I thought the link Bruce had posted was for only one used sender although now it appears to be new.

Between my Ghia and two busses I have a whole pile of junk fuel senders as they take the same PN. Many of them work initially but the floats sink within a year. VDO senders have some kind of supply problem as they're getting scarce- maybe they're out of production?

Stick with VDO, they're the only ones I've had last.

If you don't mind please keep us posted if egauges comes through with the backorder. Looking at VDO's site (link below) it doesn't appear that they list the 0-90 Ohm tube senders in their catalog anymore, so It'll be informative to see if egauges is able to get new stock.

Does anyone know how the egauges folks measure their gauges? Is it from the top of the mounting flange to the bottom of the sender or from the bottom of the mounting flange?

From the bottom of the flange (page 3 of instructions):

My two senders came last evening. Anyone want pictures?

These are exactly 190mm or 7.5". You get two spades each for "ground" and "send". Nut on the bottom is built in I guess. I prefer cork but these have the red rubber. Anyone know how well the red works and how tight to tighten with it?

I've been using the red gasket for about 2 years with no issues. I don't have a torque setting, but it doesn't take much for a good seal. If you over tighten the rubber can start to break apart; it's very soft and tears easily.
