to access the dents and dings. At first, I decided against it, but after getting a quote from the body shop where I plan to repaint the van, I’m re-assessing the PDR work. The body/paint shop quoted me about $2000 to repair 8-10 small dings and a couple of medium sized ones. The PDR guy quoted me a fraction of that.

After drilling the access holes, he would put a plastic cap over the holes to cover the access points. I would have him put silicone around the caps if that wasn’t his Standard Operating Procedure. The holes (behind the grill) to access the front hood wouldn’t be a problem as no one would ever see it and it would be sealed with the cap and silicone. Plus it’s sort of tucked away in an angle that would shelter it from rain. But the holes he wants to put in the back edge of the sliding door and side edge of the rear hatch would see a lot of rain and also be noticeable. I’m thinking I could get these holes repaired at the body shop when undergoing the repaint and the combined cost of the PDR and hole repairs would still be much less than the straight up body work. Tough call, but I leaning towards going this route. What do you all think? TIA.

If it was mine I'd let the PDR guy do his thing and NOT plug the holes. Then I'd let my paint guy talk to me about the best way to plug the holes.

Do NOT use any silicone at this point. Your paint guy will go crazy and charge you extra if he has to try to remove any of it.
