I doubt anyone's exhaust was as bad as mine, but it was next on the list to do something about.
Short of buying new exhaust, I thought I'd try re-doing them before spending the dough on a new set.
After looking at a bunch of options I decided to go with VHT. Reviews are great. Supposed to withstand temps to 2,000 degrees.
Sandblasted then painted.
Time will tell. I expected the matte finish to change some after curing on the buggy, but no soap. We'll see after my next road trip.
Paint went on great. I used 1.5 cans. They also have a primer but I didnct use it.

Depending on weather, and if I have been to a Beach, I can get between 10,000 to 20,000 miles out of the VHT rattle can paint on my header.

The day I paint it, I media blast it, never let my skin touch it (hands), paint it, mount it on the buggy. Make sure not to touch it until after firing the engine and "cooking" it.

I have been very pleased with it.

Looks like it was painted with a live chicken, polished with a brick and buffed with a pine cone

The VHT 2000* paint is the best you are ever going to get out of a spray can. Sandblast the header then follow the directions exactly as printed on the can. I bake mine in an oven but you can cure it by running the engine as directed.

Just gotta say 'Thanks' @CNSRANCH because that beautiful job on your exhaust has motivated me to do something about my ugly stock VW muffler:

Muffler is 2~3 years old and losing it's original coating to some rust spots. Wire brush'd it, then spray'd it with 550°F black VHT:

Ugly muffler? WHAT muffler!
