Those 2 rubber boots on the intake manifold of the dual port 1600 engine, how tight should you tighten it down? I have trouble with I suspect a little bit of a vacuum leak. And today I took the intake manifold apart and I now notice good big tears in the rubber boots, they aren't even a year old, and German made. So I suppose I tightened then down too much. I also have original clamps for these boots. So, tight, very tight, just tight enough??

Tight enough so they do not leak air into the manifold. That is what has worked for me.

you may test for leak tightness by spraying a flammable carb cleaner spray at the boot when engine is at idle speed. doing so will cause a rpm change in the motor you may note as the carb cleaner is sucked into leaks, effecting the combustion mixture. this is a good test to do.

Bug On, with correct mixture!

some of those clips cut into the rubber, so u could try padding them a bit. another thing is to treat the rubber to prolong it's life a bit. And if they tear, it's worth checking that all components of the intake are nicely tightened and not moving relative to one another.

Ok thanks. I will give it another try going easy this time and check if they leak.
