I was trying to think about how I can install a key-hood lock when I repaint my bug, but since this is my first VW and it's not a normal build I'm pretty stumped.
There is a big clearance due to the curvature underneath the hood.
I was wondering if I would be able to install a normal VW hood lock without having to do any crazy alterations to the hood? (below photos) The inner bottom hood lining had a metal plate drilled on it that I removed. I plan on welding/sealing up the holes.
The original builder used Rubber Hood / Luggage Container Hold-Downs to hold down the hood, but I'm future thinking here and want to be safe and put a key-lock on it for theft reasons.
Thanks in advance. Mas

Wire/flap wheel or sandblast all that yellow/rust away first before welding/bodywork. Wipe on phosphoric acid Rust Prep etc to all the bare metal & keep it coated until the epoxy primer/paint. You could install a cable latch with the knob under the dash. 2 hood pins with locks in them would be easy & secure. Fab hood pin brackets to bolt or weld to the body. They will rip it open with a tire iron if they want in anyway! That's probably why VW never put a lock on them, just a cable latch w/knob under the dash. _________________ https://imgur.com/user/FisherSquareback/posts
