As you've noticed, I've been gathering bits for the eventual return to the highway of my Ghia.
I've mentioned how parts that you assume will always be there simply vanish over night!
I am looking at a few bits to purchase now,
The 69 1/2 and up Convertible seat back latches. $35 for a pair!
I never seen any ever come up used and I can't come up with a viable DIY solution.
So.....
I'll bite the Bullet on that one and keep smiling!
Now, there are protective rubber cover pieces just behind the door. There is a plastic rivet and also the curved chrome plate hold them there.
No DIY option that I can come up with here either.......
So......
still smiling!
Next is the Cover Strip on the Upper Quarter Panel.
To me this seems like little more than a standard auto pinch weld cover...... which I have literally Yards of!
Am I correct on this guess? I've never seen one.
Are thise hard pieces of plastic in the photos remnants of these covers?
If I am correct about them being simple pinch weld covers, it would save me a few pennies...... 🤗
Anyway, a photo to help explain, I circled the areas and put in the information.
You can see remnants of the Protective Rubber Cover in the photo.
Thanks for any help!

Not really sure what you are asking here but...
I purchased a pair of 141-867-307 plastic covers from KGP&R for $29.95 several months ago. As far as the oversized rivet to hold them in place, no luck finding anything close (no part number either). I am not yet in a position to install yet (body off resto/mod in progress).
Also got the L & R rubber pieces from Chucks Convertible.

Can you send me a photo of them?
Are they like that hard plastic painted red in my photo?
I believe their purpose is to prevent the sharp metal edge from chaffing the canvas top when folded?
Dave |
I will have to dig them out of a storage bin (which bin? 1 of 7) in my garage. Give me a little time.
Yes, hard plastic. Orginally black. Yours must have been painted during last paint job.
I agree on the purpose.

EDIT: ^^^ He beat me to it.
There was a thread recently touched that addressed the rivet for that plastic trim. IIRC they purchased screw together rivets for lack of a better term. I think they came from McMaster-Carr. Wish I could be of more help.

I used a Chicago screw. Had them laying around. Here is a web site but you can find them in a lot of places, particularly a store that sells saddles and tack for horses.

Dave,
I asked the same question a couple weeks ago in the "What is this part" thread. Here is the response I got: it is called 'CV Side Panel Cover Strip'
Here is a post which references the part number shows how it fits together:
https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=153088&highlight=convertible+trim
KGPR has it in their catalog. Here is what mine look like:
The Chicago screw seems to be the best wat to lock these in.
The rubber piece is called LOCK PILLAR RUBBER COVER Price
853-369VALL RP PR (For Plastic Cover see Sect 12, #27) $17.95
Also in KGPR catalog.

Not having seen these in person, but based on the pictures posted, I imagine that they could be made from a sheet of textured ABS plastic and held in place with any of the options posted above. A heat gun would be needed to make the bend. Sadly this option would probably end up costing more than purchasing the finished product from KGPR.
As I wrote this reply it occurred to me that vinyl fabric coated on the inside with a hardening resin may work. I have seen it done with flees and polyester resin.
This video is where I got the idea. BTW, this guy also makes suits of armor.

Dave, it's $17.95 for the pair, not each.
