After months on the road on our cross-country adventure, we decided it was time to grease the zerks on our 1978 VW bus.
Here's a quick video of the tune-up:

Thanks for the video, its helpful for noobs like me. Is there a particular type of grease one should use for this? And where do you get the box of zerks? Are they universal or are there metric and sae versions?
Edit:
I see in your link that your zerks were 9mm. Is that standard for late bays? _________________ 77 westy 2.0 FI

ivwshane - We're so glad the video was helpful for you! We used lithium-based grease and the zerks can be picked up at any local car parts shop. We read all over that the size is 6mm, even on major VW parts sites, but ours turned out to be 9mm...not sure why. We are also unsure if they are universal. Good question.

ALWAYS use axle stands when the bus is elevated. _________________ "Always waiting for tomorrow ruined everything"

the beam grease fittings are an 8x1 thread size and pitch. the head/hex size is 9mm, but that's not how thread and pitch are measured.
the center pin grease fitting is a 6x1 thread size and pitch. the head/hex size is 7mm, but that's not how thread and pitch are measured.
that's why. _________________ thebucket: I invested in hoodride, now DBD won't return my call?

pioneer1 - Great precaution, we just didn't have any stands, so we jacked up one side at a time.
hazetguy - Oh, okay, so the head of the bolt is 9mm, but the zerk is measured differently. Thank you for clarifying!
