That soil must not like metal Laughing The whole recovery effort was reminiscent of bonecollector's single cab dig out in the thread video below.

Good Question.... one of those 'unsolved mysteries'... perhaps Aliens buried it. I guarantee it surprised all of us too....

Where did you find the wheel and the bumper? That tire is OLD!
Do they have Hantavirus in OK? Pretty close. Just be careful. But you already know that!
I thought you might be ending up with a ROOF!
What was the composition of the soil? Clay? Sandy?

We actually found 3 bus wheels, 2 date coded to the bus, in an open-air workshop next to the bus. Eagle-eyed Adam saw the bumper leaning against the side of the workshop. We know the bumper came off the bus because of the tent bracket and the fact that they torched the brackets to remove it...

The soil didn't have a lot of clay, which is unusual for Oklahoma. It was kind of like a sandy loam with a whole bunch of roots running through it. We would be there still trying to dig through the stuff if it weren't for the excavator!

Wow, I'm still smarting from the $900 I paid for my Wolfsburg single cab. With thin original paint. It was some 20 years ago, I guess. If it was 4 digits I would not have been a buyer.

I think you guys are still a little behind. Any small hatch bus that’s not a total roached out pile will bring 5 figures anymore. Assuming it’s marketed properly. The “back in my day” spiel gets old after a while

I found this bus 25 years ago. Now mine Smile Just need to wait for the ground to dry up a bit so I can get to it.

Chassis number 155047 makes it Oct 55.

Bottom 12" have turned to earth but lots if cool bits. Appears to have a home built camper interior. Will need to cut it up to get it out though may be able to take the back section in one part.

50 something single cab. Couldn't read the tag. Have to wait for the ground to dry up a bit more before I can get it home. It will need to be carried out but luckily it is all in bite sized pieces. Smile

Not much left but found two parts I need. Quit a few good parts like gate hinges and stuff.

Looks a bit like the "after" photo of a building implosion.

Might be original paint, tho. If it was 4 years older, I'd be trying to save it.

Was painted once. This one was so far gone that I didn't even think "If this was a barn door I would totally fix it". Smile

when I see vehicles in such a decayed state I always think to myself that there was a day when the last piece of metal rusted and a part like a gate falls off..... It would be wild to see a time lapse of something like that!

About 3 weeks ago and add popped up on a Facebook page 1961 vw bus full of car parts was all it said with a picture.. Unable to get a reply or contact. Finally got ahold of the gentleman and was able to go set eyes on it Friday. The guy that owned it's dad purchased it new. Where it was then parked in 1984 due to a rear ending. Deal was made. Took about 4 hours to get her out and had to remove almost 4000lbs of engines and crap out of her. What sucks is no seats. But oh well.

Tractor and floor jack, shovel and saw and a bunch of sweat and tears.
