I want to spruce up my dash. It has seen better days.
The speedo gets moisture in it on rainy days and has left a film of water stains in the glass. I saw a video that shows that these can be rebuilt, but I just wanted to check here and see if there is anything else besides the cardboard gasket that i should be ordering. Do you think the trim ring is salvageable or should I just order a new one? It's pretty badly pitted, but I don't know if it was originally chrome or maybe aluminum that I could clean up with some scuff pads.
The fuel gauge is looking pretty sad too. I didn't take a picture, but the needle looks as though it has old dirty mildew on it and there seems to be metal shavings of some sort sitting in the bottom of it. It works ok. It bounces around a good bit and isn't extremely accurate, but I assume that is normal for these type of vehicles? Are the fuel gauges servicible? Would it be better to search for a reproduction?
Lastly, there was a sticker dead center above the radio. At first I thought it was just some random sticker that had faded over time. As I was looking through random pictures a couple of days ago I saw a bug with a sticker in the exact same place with a shift pattern printed on it. I have wondered if it would be cool to put a replacement of the same sticker over the radio. I've looked and looked and haven't been able to find the picture I originally found, nor have a found a replica sticker. Does anyone recognize this or have any idea on where to find one?
I have decided to swap out the corny eighties cassete player for the Retrosound Hermosa with the ivory buttons. My current switches are all black. Do they sell a kit of all the knobs I need, or will I have to buy each one individually. WW doesn't seem to carry the proper knobs in Ivory for a '67. Either that or they are pretty universal and I could purchase for later years and use them on my bug? |

Notice the shift pattern portion is offset to the right of center. This suggests something else was on the left, perhaps a logo, maybe EMPI? |

Good eye!! I hadn't noticed that. Now that I really look at the sticker I believe I can see a faint impression of a capital E and the dot from the I. In that case I'm not interested in preserving that aspect at all. |

Did a search for "gear shift sticker" in the gallery and got only one result not what you are looking for.
So tried "shift sticker" and got one page of very interesting results and your sticker in it.

Nice find Barb and Eric! I'd buy one and cover the previous carnage before I'd consider anything else. _________________

You should not be getting moisture in the speedo....You ahould take a look at your hood seal or anything else nearby that would let water get into it.
They are not really sealed anyway, but Wolfsburg west sells most of the gaskets you would need. Getting the chrome ring off is a real pain in the ass. Pay attention to the various seals and bushing between the glass and the speedo body. There are more that you think. If the needle doesnt bounce around, then I would just gently clean the face and the inside of the glass. Try chrome polish on both ther chrome ring and the dash trim ring. By the way, there is a gasket on the chrome ring that goes against the dash. _________________ D-Dubya Manx clone - 63 Short pan,1914.
