So I pulled the trans out of this '63 Ghia for a client because the axle tube flanges were leaking oil like crazy. I got them sealed up with new gaskets and reinstalled. The left side went together fine, but I'm fighting with the right. I got the tube on, but when I reinstall the bearing and cover and torque them down, it binds. I pulled the bearing to inspect it. It looked fine, and sure enough, the axle isn't clearing the tube. I may just be special enough for a helmet, but what am I doing wrong here?

The only sure way to tell is to pull the flange and look. You still have the trans out ? _________________ Rick

Yep! I pulled the tube off and ran it through its range of motion. Probably also a stupid question, thing ring goes under the bearing, right?

yes the spacer goes under the bearing but it is hard to tell from the pics, it looks like one of the fulcrum plates has slipped. _________________ Rick

I kinda thought so. They are supposed to lay flush with the spade on the axle, right? I don't have my repair manual on me _________________ 1971 Standard Beetle "The Bombshell"
