| That's correct. It's headed west through the Tiergarten in the American Zone. You're looking back through the gate into the Russian Sector on the Unter den Linden. I believe the car carries Baden-Wurtemburg registry in the American Occupation Zone. |

| That's right...Bavaria registry. It looks as though the car was loaded up in the East somewhere and then headed into West Berlin. That may explain what appears to be a vehicle inspection being carried out by the policeman. The license plate is an early one (circa 1949 or later). There was still a very active barter economy in Germany then. Black market items were in high demand. It seems quite plausible that this loaded down car emerging from the Russian Sector would've have attracted police attention consequently. |

A great picture of a captured Kubelwagen that shows how valuable they were to troops in the desert. Instead of using it
for target practice, these GIs outfitted this rig with U.S. Jeep wheels and a large auxiliary fuel tank for extended range. Not
many gas stations in the desert.

It amazes me..these GI s had the knowledge to adapt jeep wheels to a kube...that's shade tree enginuity...
