My Ghia was sitting for a while which was causing the battery was to drain. When i went to move it and start it it was miss-firing and would run but felt like there wasnt gas getting to the engine. i thought this was related to the battery being low, but then whne the car jumped it would still misfire and when i would give it gas, it felt like the gas wasnt quite getting to the engine. So i had the battery re-charged, and now the car wont start at all. it turns over, but just does not start. What would cause the misfire and or the car not starting even though i wasnt even driving it? Alos, while the car was sitting, there was some rain....Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks |

Well, a few clues.......
Rain......
If your ignition components are old and decayed, they will allow moisture in. This moisture attracts the sparks and misdirects it usually passing it to ground on the engine rather than through the spark plug.
This kills that cylinder and it cannot fire.
This is easily fixed by a new Cap, Rotor and Wires. (Carefully installed, do NOT MIX UP THE WIRE ORDER!)
Sitting......
Gasoline is not a timeless commodity. It quite simply goes bad after sitting for awhile. It smells funny when it goes bad, almost like a wood finish called varnish.
This varnish, often yellow/orange in color, is a sticky goo that covers everything submerged in it.
The varnish will cause moving parts to stick and clogs tiny orfices needed to deliver fuel.
Another sitting problem is the fuel pump diaphram may have rotted, so no fuel is being fed to the carburetor.
These are they easy problems...... other more labor intensive repairs can be sticking valves and stuck piston rings. The varnish can clog up the fuel pickup screen in the fuel tank too. Severe cases can clog the fuel delivery pipe.

All good suggestions stated above..
Also have a good look at your points as well, being in the closed position for a long time and moisture wreaks havoc on an otherwise simple setup..
Replace these basic tune-up parts and then move onto the fuel..Don't forget that you must reset the timing after replacing points
