Finally got to the stage of construction on my 59 bug that I could install the deck lid. The engine is a 36 with the WW Okrasa kit. What I have found is that the air cleaner in the right side of the engine will not clear the decklid. I have not heard of any issues from others who have installed this kit. Are both air cleaners the same? Is one supposed to be offset to help clear the lid?
Any advice would be very helpful!!
Thanks
Bruce

I just checked mine again. There isn't a difference the filters opening. Both are centered. My friend Tom is a Denzel guy and he said the bolt on the clamp should be on the outside side. Not that it matters much. I do like that the seam in the mesh is towards the back and you can read the wording on the top.

When installing you do have to bring the decklid down a little to fit the filter in the area.

Thanks. For the reply! Right now the only option I can see is to see if I can raise the decklid a little higher. Not sure if I can without scraping some paint. Judging from the replies I must be the only one that cannot raise the decklid without hitting the aircleaner

Post a pic of engine bay and right carb. My 60 had no problems other than installing the filter, I had to pull close the lid a little as stated to get it on.

A picture of how the right carburetor interferes with the decklid.

I built this engine https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=698240 for a customers 1959 VW Cabriolet and was concerned about deck lid / rain catch clearance.
I modified / offset the passenger side air cleaner and is almost un-noticeable unless you look. Cheers. Mr. Okrasa

I cut 1/8" around the base/neck of the air cleaner, filled in the rest with same gauge sheet metal, relocated neck and brazed it.
Modification cannot be seen when looking at engine. Simple! Very Happy
