I guess it's about time I start a thread on this. It's still at a buddies house getting the bodywork done. So here are some pictures..
So you know typical rust, sorry for being short. Tablet life on forums is more for lurking these days lol!
I am gonna start with wiring when I get it back from body work. And reccomendations on full harness kits? I'm gonna run an AUX fuse box for random stuff. _________________ The United States Constitution

Perhaps our '65 Kombis came off the line together! They sure bear a strong resemblance- especially in the rockers
I affectionately refer to this removed glas fibre repair section as "bus bark"

More progress..
Paint has been wet sanded with 2000 grit and buffed with a polish wax free compound.
Middle area is about done. Front will start next. Ugh saving this east coast bus in NV is lots of work and $$. It will be worth it in the end hopefully. _________________ The United States Constitution

Bringing a bit of blue back to the really grey areas. Tested on this door. Thanks to my awesome body work and paint guy Mitch, this will hopefully be ready next week, and by ready, I mean ready to have everything else completely redone lol!!

Thanks for the compliments. Today I worked on the roof.
Dry
Then went sanded with 2000 grit and wiped down
Extra paint cleaner
Then polish
Finished off with wax around the gutters where paint still exists. That's all for today.

Popped the windshields out today. Also removed some things from the dash and cleaned it up.
Will need to patch this.
I found this under the seat area, had some overspray on it.
Some pictures added of the underside and cargo area.
That's all for today. _________________ The United States Constitution

So I figured out my Bus is a 64, not a 65. Mods please amend if you see this.
I pulled my wiper and rebuild it with a 12 motor.
Next is treating the window frames under the windshield. I've got them down to bare metal. Gonna patch a few small holes and then smooth the pitting out with some filler. Lay down some good primer and paint match them. Should last a good while now with new window seals. No safaris for now. _________________ The United States Constitution

A '64. Well now, that explains all the extra rust with which you had to deal..
Looking great sir- very inspiring. Bradford _________________

Called in a pro to help patch up the windshield holes since I suck at welding.
In the mean time I rebuilt my speedo with new filaments and cleaned them up, also 12v bulbs. Little things at a time.

Have you considered simply starting with a nicer bus? I don't know what your skills are, but the race is easier if you can see the finish line. If you are not a runner, don't start off doing a marathon. |

Whoever told you you can't put the frame seal on a pop out window while it's still installed on the bus, doesn't know what it's like to have your fingers in great pain after doing so. Use lots of silicone spray and trim tools and pick tools.

I suppose its time I bump this to give myself motivation. Just like me to wait till it gets cold to start wrenching again.. lmao! I got the engine bay cleaned out and the Dynamat Hoodliner up. I may have to do a couple patch welds on the edges of the engine roof so I'm waiting on that portion. The entire upper portion of the engine bay will have this covering when done. It looks nice and definitely helps with heat transfer to the cabin and sounds reduction. I also cut squares of noico sound deadening mat and places them on the larger metal panels to reduce vibration noise. I learned from my last bus that complete coverage with the heavy deadening mat has diminishing returns when factoring in the weight and noise reduction. Either way, progress is being made. New WW tank in place, next us to remove the transmission and make way for a freeway flyer. Then on to the wiring.
