Definitely easier to leak as the seal is so thin it can't take very much movement of the input shaft. People do use them though and get away with it.

If you stick with the early style get a Sach's throw out bearing as the clip holes are a lot deeper than the Empi version. The Empi version doesn't let the clip set in very deep to them.

The heavy duty shafts I use circlip pliers to open up the clips so I can put them on without killing the clips. It's not uncommon for the heavy duty shafts to have the arms and cuts for the arm clocked wrong.

Have it, works fine but I have less than 5K miles on it. The lip of the seal is not much thinner than the stock lip. If your shaft is moving that much no seal is going to hold oil from leaking. I have seen seals as small on other input shafts. The seal has the correct directional ridges on the lip also. Seems to be OK.
