... Clutch and accelerator cables, that is. I find I'm getting more free play in my clutch the last 5 K miles,so methinks the cable may be starting to go south and my gas pedal is getting a stiff spot when about 3/4 to the floor. Are there areas on these rascals that I can eyeball to see if failure is near?

At the ends where the pieces are swaged to the cable. But also the clutch pedal hook can also wear and break.

Accelerator cables don't break too often, usually just come out of the barrel clamp.

The hole for the acc. cable on the pedal may get worn and the worm end can slip out. I replaced mine with the locking loop type for buggies.

Where the Bowden tube and metal clutch tube meet there is wear in the Bowden tube over time and it frays the cable.

Only one way to find out-pull the pedal cluster and remove the cable.

Check for wear on the forward end of the cable as well.
