this VJU 4BR8 dizzy looks like it has/had a 2 ball bearing "guide(?)" on the plate. Only one ball now......is this a 'normal' feature on these dizzys? Never seen it on other vehicles, and didn't notice it on my bugs and buses years ago.

No.. only one ball. What you see is normal.

so...the extra space under that cap is to let the bearing 'roam" ?

Correct.

All it does is apply pressure to the movable breaker plate against the static breaker plate.
