Hey guys I just picked up an old trailer from the early 50s to haul my boat around in. It's a homemade trailer and it was fitted with I want to say 1950-1960 VW hubs and rims. The Tires aren't really any good old tube style rims that barely hold air. I would really like to either just swap the hubs or find some rims that fit that lug pattern. They are 16 inch rims. Does anybody know the Hub pattern is it still 5x205 on 16inch?Thanks for any input guys! |

Careful with those trailer rims- they might be pre-war Ford, which also had a "wide 5" pattern, wheel cooling slots, and 16" diameter but the wide 5 pattern is larger than an early Beetle. Back when I first starting working on VWs for hobby in my early teens, a local junkyard had such wheels in a small pile. I wanted to put them on my '60 Beetle, thinking at first glance they were the VW pattern. Like this one: http://www.akhwheels.com/pages/showWheel.php?pk=449
Junkyard owner asked me what car I was putting them on because I had brought up several true VW parts to pay. Owner then informed me the rims are for "old Ford". Since an "old trailer" may have utilized whatever rim was easily available, it is likely they are old Fords instead of old VW. |
