I have done a top end rebuild on my 1500s engine and was disappointed to find that I couldn’t install my cylinder heads as the top studs are too short. I replaced the old 40hp style type 2 heads that were on the engine with a set of later heads. These late heads have thicker casting where the top studs go.

So my question is what length studs do I need to be able to use these heads?

you will need four 71/2 in long studs. if you are going dual port. a samba add here by jksalservw was good for me. keep in mind 8 or 10 mm.
