West Berlin, Germany. Most likely the main avenue "Kurfuerstendamm", locally known as the Ku-damm (pronouned koo dumm). The wide avenue was intended as a prime main street in the city, with cafes, restaurants, affluent shops located on either side. The yellow sign in the center KaDeWe is an abbreviation for Kaufhaus des Westens (department store of the West), a very large upscale department store similar to Harrod's in London. Was an important symbol of the resurgence of prosperity in the city and country in the '50's. Ka De We is simply the German pronunciation of the first letter of each word.

While working at VW in Wolfsburg in the early '80's I visited a friend numerous times who had the exact same birthday as me, that lived in West Berlin. She and her brother would take me around the city to various sights, including both the church (eery, sobering) and the KdW.

Clever and well-done conversion to enable transporting tall objects in the dealer "van". Stylish "S" curves along the roof cut, instead of just utilitarian straight cuts. Relocated fuel tank to enable lowering the engine cover panel to a more practical height. Contoured hand grab rails. 2-piece fabric/canvas roof cover. Rear-facing air scoops (how useful in this orientation?) at the rear corners of the engine cover panel to provide air intake to the engine compartment, since the original side panel vents have been cut off. Reverse light under the bumper, as per the clear lens. If it were a rear fog light, the lens would've been red colored. Wonder if the dealer made this truck out of a van that incurred heavy roof damage?
