California Bound, looking for advice, tips etc

My name is Chris and I am the Vice President of the Classic VW Club of Louisville. https://www.facebook.com/groups/ClassicVWClubLouisville/ My adult son and I are heading out (with his beetle in tow) to Huntington Beach. We will arrive May 30 and be leaving June 11.
We know about the big events (RVA, Bug In, OCTO, ElPrado), and are really looking forward to them. What we are searching for are some tips for getting around, both in California in general but also the shows. Plus we are looking for events during the week, must see things, good food stops(we love the smaller Mom and Pop stops), flea markets, as well as car cruises. Thanks in Advance for any suggestions!
